The Polar Star is an iconic ski line. Set on the Arctic island of Baffin, the Polar Star Couloir is an esthetic couloir set among an island of ice, Polar Bears and towering granite walls.
Big mountain skier Cody Townsend visited Baffin Island in May as part of his attempt to ski The Fifty Classic Ski Descents of North America. Joining him was one of the world’s best ski mountaineers and steep skiers, Vivian Bruchez.
Though the goal of the journey is to ski the Polar Star, several steep, challenging and beautiful ski lines awaited them on Baffin. And as Townsend said, “A lesson in just what makes Bruchez one of the world’s best, comes to light.” Of Townsend’s 45 films about his skiing of the 50, this is one of the best.
